Accommodation in Portugal

There is no shortage of types of tourist accommodation: Hotels, rural tourism, hostels, guest houses, local accommodation and pousadas. A choice for all but lost for choice?

Let us give you help with that with a few tips:

  • Do not leave it to the last minute.
There will always be a place to stay, but a good and affordable one, these are always the first to go. Don’t reduce your choices to other people’s’ leftovers and get organised in time.

  • Check the exact location of the accommodation.
The more central locations may be a bit more expensive. But be careful that the perfect accommodation on the outskirts will not cost you a small fortune or time in getting there.

  • Local accommodation
If travelling as a group or as a family consider renting an apartment or house instead of a series of rooms You will have the comforts of home in a less touristy environment and probably pay a fraction of what you would pay for in a hotel.

  • Try to get a room with a kitchen
Hostels and local accommodation with kitchen allow you to save on food

  • Hostels, an economical option
Portuguese Hostels have won several awards and recommendations. The most affordable option and some hostels even feel like hotels. It is a fun environment for those who like to meet new people and do not have privacy as an essential criteria for holiday accommodation. Usually with dormitory rooms, though some may have some private rooms

  • Rural tourism. Ideal for families or romantic getaway
Rural tourism is increasingly popular. A rural environment, less touristy, in contact with nature. Great for hiking, outdoor activities, relaxing and getting to know the agricultural produce of these units. Usually wine, olive oils, cork, animal and/or its derivatives.

  • Pousadas de Portugal. Royalty
Because there are things that should be indulged at least once in a lifetime. Castles, convents and palaces transformed into historic hotels. Authentic time travel in which you are the Queen and live a real-life fairy tale.
