Brejão
Fado singer Amália Rodrigues chose the village of Brejão as the perfect spot to build her summer house.
On the road that crosses the village, notice the four immense murals painted on the building facades, in tribute of the fado singer
What to visit around Brejão Village
Amália Beach
“Amália knows best”. This delicious review I came upon says everything about this beach.
Park your car in front of Amália Rodrigues’ old house, which now belongs to its foundation, and follow the path that will take you to the beach. This walk alone deserves the stop. A small path that follows the stream through trees, bridges and reeds to then end, just like its stream, on a wild beach.
From the clifftop, it is a world apart, where everything is intense, the landscape, the waves, the light and the smell of the sea.
Access to the beach is via a steep staircase. During high tide, there is only a small border of sand remaining.
Azenha do Mar
To the south of Aldeia do Bregão you will find the fishing port of Azenha do Mar. A protective cove that enables the boats to access the sea and as such its residents were able to dedicate themselves to fishing and seaweed harvesting settling here
To end the day, enjoy a bite at the Palhinhas restaurant, an unpretentious veranda overlooking the sea that allows you to see, in a privileged position, a most magnificent sunset
