About the Santa Clara Dam
Built by the Estado Novo and completed in 1969, it covers about 2 thousand hectares, taking advantage of the Mira River’s waters. A magnificent basin of water that shelters largemouth bass, carp and crayfish.
In addition to the hydroelectric plant, this immense water reservoir provides irrigation for the surrounding lands planted with cork, oaks and holms.
You will find acacias, mimosas, poplars, ash, willows, and closer to the village in more fertile lands in the inner riverside area. You can also find vegetable gardens, orange trees, fig trees and olive trees.
The best way to explore the Santa Clara Dam is to rent a boat or a kayak.
